General term for hardware (A/D-D/A) used for performing the measurements. The term sound card is also used on built-in sound devices, USB and Firewire devices. Calling a USB sound device or a built-in sound device for a sound card does not make much sense since they are not ‘cards’. But it is common practice so we will use this term for all sound devices.
